Chinese teacher with studentChina is becoming increasingly important in the global economy and world affairs. Speaking Chinese gives a competitive edge as trade with China grows.

It is a country full of mystery. It has the largest population which consists of 56 ethnic groups and has 5000 years of history!  Learning the language to unveil the secrets of China and get to know Chinese people will become increasingly important in today’s world.

Last but not least, Chinese is not as hard as you think. If you know 581 commonly used characters, you will recognize 80% of the characters on Chinese newspapers!

Chinese at Marsden

Chinese is currently taught from Years 7 to 11 where we develop our communication skills and explore the Chinese culture. A lot of people say that Chinese tones are hard to grasp but actually most of my students can speak Chinese with excellent tones!

We participated in the National Chinese Competition in the past two years and gained excellent results!  A camp during December and January for senior students is held  in aMaking Chinese characters with playdoh different city in China every year and participants of the Competition have priority to attend!   All the in-China costs, accommodation, food, and sightseeing are free of charge!

Apart from listening, speaking, reading and written activities in class, we also do fun activities such as calligraphy, paper-cutting, Chinese songs and movies, and using chopsticks to eat Chinese food.
