Upper School Music Groups

Marsden Symphony (Wednesdays 12-35 Auditorium)
The orchestra is an auditioned group of about 30 players. They rehearse and perform a varied repertoire to accompany the school on special occasions, play for services and perform at concerts. Each member is auditioned for a place and rank order.

Groovy Strings (Wednesdays 12-35 Music Room)
This group rehearses with Ms Craven on Monday lunch hours. Interesting group repertoire and solo accompanying in wide-ranging styles are planned.

Jazz Group (Thursdays 12.45pm)
An exciting new venture into the world of improvisation for players and rhythm section (keyboard, bass, drums) under the tutorship of our Mr P Holt and Caroline Stevens.

Flute ensemble (Thursdays 8.00am)
A new venture this year led by student conductor Caroline Stevens
School Chamber Music Contest
This Festival/Competition is held in Wellington in June. Students are taking part in CHAMPS programme at Massey University.

Senior Chamber Choir (Years 11 - 13) (Tuesdays 3-45 to 5-00)
This auditioned showcase group performs at many school, festivals, competitions and public events. The repertoire is demanding and varied and a very high standard of performance is maintained. The Regional Choral Festival takes place on 4 - 5 June with those selected for the final taking part in the Festival of Youth Arts in Wellington in August.

Junior Chamber Choir (Years 9- 10) (Thursdays 1.15-1.45)
The Junior Chamber Choir is an auditioned group which sings demanding and varied repertoire and a very high standard of performance is maintained.
