Orienteering
All the best to Lauren Turner (Y13) and Emma Carruthers (Y10) who have been selected for the Wellington Regional Orienteering Team to compete against Auckland and Hawkes Bay for the Regional Schools Trophy over Queen’s Birthday weekend. (18//05/2011)
Handball Reps
The NZ Handball Federation has announced a squad of 25 players that will be reduced to 14 for the final NZ U20 team to attend an overseas tournament. This is exciting news for Samantha Elston (Y13), Catherine Graham (Y11), Vishmi Helaratne (Y12), Casidhe Maguire (Y13) and Cassie O'Regan (Y12) who have all made the squad and we wish them well during the upcoming training and final selection process. Cross Country
Congratulations to all of our runners in the Cross Country Relays held in wintery conditions at Karori Park on Wednesday 9 May. We had three Y9 teams, one Under 16 and one Open team competing. Our Y9 team of Madeline Wilson, Ruby Leverington, Alexandra McKendry and Jessica Seow performed outstandingly winning the Y9 race. What makes this even more impressive is that three of the four runners are still in Year 8. A special mention to Madeline Wilson for recording the fastest lap out of all of the Y9 girls. The future of cross country is looking very bright at Marsden. (11/05/2012)

Cricket
Marsden 1st XI cricket team had a roller coaster tournament to finish a creditable third in the New Zealand Communities Trust Cricket Tournament at the end of Term 1. Sohpie Couper (Y13), Student Head of Cricket attributes this result to the fantastic batting of Emma Fulbrook (Y10) who ended the tournament with notable scores of 47* and 77* and to Florence Marshall (Y10) who took 5 wickets for 10 runs against Sacred Heart and managed to keep and bat superbly throughout the day. Inter school Hockey match
In the Easter holidays Marsden hosted Oxley College from Bowral (birth place of Sir Don Bradman) near Sydney. The Marsden team, comprised members of the 1st and 2nd XI squads, won 3 goals to nil in a well fought game. (04/05/2012)
Orienteering
Lauren Turner (Y13) has had a great start to the 2012 orienteering season. She was first in the Senior Girls at the NISS Champs in Hawkes Bay on 20-21 April. At the National champs over Easter in Woodhill Forest she came first in the W18 long and middle distance and was the female member of a three person strong Wellington team which won the inter-club relay and national title. Kayaking
Two students performed brilliantly well at the NZ Sprint Kayaking Nationals at the Blue Lake in Rotorua recently.
Hannah Altman (Y13) came 1st in the U19 K2 500, and 3rd in K4 200
Bridget Kiddle (Y11) gained 4 silver medals.
Under 16 K2 200 and 500 and U16 K4 200 and 500 ( ie 2 person and 4 person for both the 200m and 500m events.) She also made A finals in both the K1 200 and K1 500. (04/05/2011)
Fencing
Daniela Ravera (Year 12) participated in the U17 National Fencing Championships in Dunedin on the 16th of April and finished third equal in the Women’s U17 foil event. She did very well and we are proud of her, particularly seeing she has two further years to compete in the U17 category. (04/05/2012)
Handball
Congratulations to Catherine Graham (Y11) who received a trophy for the top girl goal scorer across the Wellington secondary Schools Handball league. She also made it into the NZ U20 Training Squad for a tournament in Samoa in September along with Cassie O’Regan (Y12), Casidhe Maguire and Sam Elston (Y13). (04/05/2012)
20 Years of Service to Hockey Award
Congratulations to Sports Director, Paul Tessier, who was rewarded for twenty years' service to hockey with a Silver Service Award at the Hockey New Zealand Awards dinner on Saturday night. (02/05/2012)
Equestrian
Sofia Letteri (Y9) competed at the at the Horowhenua Dressage Group's Autumn Tournament in early April and she had a great result, with a 2nd place in Level 1.1 and 5th place in Level 1.3 tests. (04/05/2012)
Javelin
Emma Fullbrook's (Y10) winning javelin throw of 39.90m gained her the Intermediate Girls' Championship and broke the intermediate record at the North Islands Secondary Schools championships over the weekend. (04/04/2012)
Wellington Hockey Academy
Congratulations to Lara Vance (Y13) who is a member of the women's 2011/12 Wellington Hockey Academy, a development programme for Wellington players aged 15+. The Academy is a 12 month programme where these elite athletes recieve coaching from NZ's top coaches, mentoring as well further opportunities. (04/04/2012)

Two students, Ella Vincent-Hyde (Y9) and Emma Fullbrook (Y10) have been selected for New Zealand Football Talent Centres. Ella in the U14 squad and Emma in the U16 squad. Ella is also a Wellington U14 Football Representative. (04/04/2012)
