A new uniform costs between approximately $1000, depending on how many extras are bought. Many parents purchase from our range of good second-hand uniform items. See Uniform Shop

Why should we choose Marsden over other schools?
It depends on what you want for your child. Marsden students gain the best academic results in the country, small classes, quality teaching, a warm support network for each student, wonderful grounds, great art, sport and music….and much, much more. Come and see for yourself, or explore our website in detail.

Can we meet the Principal?
The Principal, Ms Jenny Williams, would like to meet you when you visit the school. If a place is available, and you decide to send your daughter or son, it is a requirement that your child comes with you for a friendly interview with the Principal before starting.

We live out of Wellington a bit – Seatoun, Kapiti, Tawa, Johnsonville.
School buses run from many outer suburbs and the children enjoy the opportunity to make friends while they travel. Older girls help look after the younger ones. A regular bus service runs from the Railway Station opposite Parliament Buildings. Students arrive at school in plenty of time for classes. Marsden Whitby offers co-education for students also.

How far is Karori from Wellington City?
About five kilometres, an easy bus ride from central Wellington. See location

Is Samuel Marsden a boys’ school?
No, despite the name, it is mostly a girls’ school with co-educational classes available in the pre-school and Year 1. Marsden Whitby, however, is fully co-educational with classes from Year 7-12.

Is it a boarding school?
No. Some students board with local Karori families. We have a list of suitable families, although homestays are usually organised independently of the school. Guardianship and homestays can be arranged through agents who work closely with the school.

How long should an Overseas student spend at Marsden?
We recommend at least one year, but if preparing for University, then at least two years.  Because our classes are conducted in English, longer immersion in the language is recommended.  Some of our overseas students join us at Year 9 or 10.

No. Marsden will only accept students who live in suitable Homestay accommodation and who have a Guardian in Wellington.

How can I arrange my student visa?
Contact your nearest New Zealand consulate or embassy.

What happens if I am sick or have an accident while in New Zealand.
Your Guardian will be responsible for you in these circumstances. Medical insurance is compulsory. Our information pack has more details.

If I want to go home during the holidays, who will arrange my air travel?
Your Guardian will make travel arrangements for you.

Do senior students wear uniform?
All Marsden students wear uniform. Senior students have a smart, business-like uniform of straight knee-length skirt, street jacket and tie.
