Pastoral Care
Guidance and Pastoral Care System
Marsden has a strong commitment to an effective school-wide system of pastoral care for students. It is part of the special character and philosophy of the school.
The aim is to assist the personal development of students which includes encouraging them to develop:
- A feeling of success in their lives and to enjoy it.
- Self-confidence and self-esteem
- A sense of responsibility for their actions
- A positive, self-reliant attitude to learning in general and school in particular
- An attitude of care, concern and Christian responsibility towards others.
Deans and Associate Deans serve as the first resource for any students who need help or advice beyond the Form Teacher in their academic, extra curricular, or personal activities, or with any stress related problem.
Depending on the area of concern, Deans and Associate Deans may counsel students themselves or refer them to other specialists such as Head of Subjects, Careers Advisor, Counsellor or Nurse.
Confidentiality is paramount and will be maintained unless the safety of a student is at risk or if a student gives their permission.
The Deans and Associate Deans will usually be the first point of contact with parents and will maintain any necessary communication. They should always be involved when there are serious concerns. Parents with concerns or questions should contact the Deans of Associate Deans at School.
