Speech & Drama

At Marsden Primary we offer students Speech and Drama and Public Speaking classes. The aim of these classes is to give the students the ability to express themselves with clarity, confidence and courtesy.

Junior speechThe skills covered are vocal development, drama, reading aloud, poetry speaking, public speaking, extempore talks, impromptu talks, improvisation and literature appreciation. These are valuable skills which will develop students confidence and give them sound oral skills for their future personal, social and career paths.

Year 3 to Year 6 students can elect to take Speech and Drama. The programme covers:-

Preparation of talks, poetry speaking, reading aloud and improvisation culminating in a grade exam in the third term.

In 2011 Speech and Drama will be offered to Years 1 and 2 students. The aim of the course is to develop oral communication skills that will eventually lead to students sitting Speech and Drama exams.   The lessons focus on listening and speaking confidently, offering ideas and opinions and drama work in groups.
