Sport at Marsden teaches students about  sportsmanship, teamwork and courage.

Marsden Primary students are introduced to a wide range of sports to enable them to find something they enjoy.

Former Silver Fern, Ms Cathrine Wilkinson, runs a general fitness and skills programme throughout the school, teaching skills that can be applied to all sorts of sports.

Lizzie learning football skills

A number of team sports are played in the Primary School, including:

  • Netball
  • Hockey
  • Miniball
  • Flipperball (Underwater Hockey)
  • Badminton
  • Touch Rugby

There is an annual competition with Chilton St James School for T-Ball in Term 1 and Hockey/Netball/Football in Term 3.

The Primary School is represented by girls from Years 4 to 6 in the Western Zone and Interzone Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country competitions.

Inter-house Sport

Houses are lead by a Captain and Deputy, who are elected each term under a confidential peer voting system. House points are collected and announced weekly with the winning House awarded with the House trophy at Prize Giving at the end of the school year.

In the Junior Syndicate, emphasis is placed on ‘enthusiastic participation’ in the Cross-country, Swimming and Athletics House events. We like seeing the emerging skills. Preschool also join the Primary to participate in Cross Country and Athletic sports.

Extra Curricular Sport

During the winter terms, we offer competitive Netball or Hockey. Practices are held during the lunch times with matches played on Saturday mornings.

Depending on demand, we also offer the opportunity to join Uni hockey, Touch Rugby, Mini Ball, Badminton, Tennis and summer Netball teams.

Senior Girls and parents support us through the winter sports by coaching, managing and umpiring/refereeing.
