Library
The library is located in a sunny corner of the Primary school and provides library services for classes from Preschool to Year 6.
Classes visit weekly and a different topic is focused upon each term. Recent topics have included New Zealand books, Myths and Legends, and stories that have become movies or television programmes. Students also have the opportunity to browse the shelves for their own recreational reading and the librarian is always available to help with their choices
Students can visit the library independently in their lunchtimes for quiet reading, choosing books or listening to the range of story CDs available to them. Some bring homework to finish; others play board games or cards. Student librarians help during lunchtimes issuing and returning books and providing reading suggestions to their peers.
Access to five computer catalogues is provided in the library and two versions of the catalogue are available: younger students have access to a pictorial version. For older students, a more advanced version is available that also allows them to browse books held in the Upper School Library. These books can be borrowed if appropriate.
An annual Bookfair is held in the library as well as talks and workshops with authors and illustrators. Recent visitors have included Babette Cole, Ruth Paul, Fifi Colston and Cathy Cassidy. These talks are always very popular, giving the students the opportunity to talk to the artists directly.
