Business Girls

The young businesswomen of Marsden Primary held a very successful Market Day to sell the products they have been developing this term under the Primary Enterprise (PrEP) scheme.
Shoppers had the choice of a vast range of goods from companies which included Spectacular Sewers, Crafty Cooks, Beading Buddies, Craftastic, Flying Pig Films, Funky Fimo, Bookworms. Bamboozle, Raindrops on Roses and Gummy Bears Cooking.
The PrEP Bankers were happy that so many Marzzies exchanged hands! Congratulations to all.

Prime Minister visits
The Prime Minister, the Hon. John Key, visited Marsden Preschool yesterday at the invitation of the children. They wrote to him last week when they were learning the letter "J" in the alphabet. He listened to them sing, read them a story and answered their questions. The children really enjoyed his visit. Pictured Marsden Principal, Ms Jenny Williams, introduces Mr Key to Marsden Primary Director, Mrs Celia McCarthy. (03/06/2010)

We were very lucky last week when the mother of student, Piyali Sharma (Y4), came to demonstrate Indian dancing to Years 3 and 4. She looked beautiful in her sari. (03/06/2010)

Brown Paper Books
Marsden Primary Librarian, Jennifer Nicholas has come up with an innovative idea to reintroduce classic stories to students. Article below by Olivia Hausmann (Y6)
Mrs Nicholas has thought of an exciting way of involving everyone in our new library theme, revising the classics. In doing this she has created a lucky dip. Instead of toys and lollies the prize is a book, a classic book. They were wrapped up in brown paper and so we have called them, “Brown Paper Books.” We don’t get to keep the books but we share our stories with the girls in our class. It is such a great idea and all of us are trying out a new range of adventures, fables and mysteries.
Thank you Mrs Nicholas for this great surprise! (26/05/2010)
Cross Country
Congratulations to all who achieved personal best times in the recent Cross Country competition at school. It was lovely to see so many parents especially as it was so cold. Best wishes to those girls who will compete in the Western Zone Cross Country competition. Thank you to Ms Wilkinson for organising yet another wonderful Primary School event. (20/05/2010)
Art Inspiration
Inspired by the work of artist Milan Mrkusich at the Wellington City Art Gallery, Marsden Primary students have created their own art pieces. Pictured left are Year 3 students working through the creative process and obviously enjoying the colours and shapes.
Below is the art created by Years 1 and 2.
Narrative Writing by Year 2
In our classroom we have a science table. On the table we have a swan plant and on the plant there are monarch caterpillars. Some of our caterpillars turned into chrysalises. At the weekend, one of the butterflies hatched. When we came back to school on Monday the butterfly was missing! We searched and searched but we couldn't find it. Later in the day, Mrs Sherlock came to see us and we asked her to help us look. After a while we found it! It was hiding under our science table. Finally we took it carefully outside and watched it fly away, up up into the tree.
Sports Exchange

Sports fixtures this year have included the friendly T-ball exchange with Chilton St James. We had a beautiful day and finished off with a shared lunch at the end of the morning. Despite Marsden's brilliant fielding (pictured) Chilton left victorious having won by a single run.
Great catch Rebekah!

Helicopter
Last week an Air Force helicopter visited Marsden Primary as part of the unit they are studying on transportation. It was very noisy as it landed on the playing field. Students were able to ask the pilots questions and then sit in the helicopter before it flew away. We wonder what will land on the field next? (24/03/2010)
Hot Air Balloon
Marsden Primary students were treated to a visit from the Asthma Foundation's hot air balloon, Puff, yesterday. They saw it being inflated on the field, rise into the air and float back down again. They got to stand in the basket and then they helped pack it away. They also learnt about what to do if a friend has an asthma attack. It was a thrilling experience, the day the hot air balloon came to school. (10/03/2010)
This is what Zoe (Y2) wrote about it: Today a hot air balloon came. It was awesome. It was big and fat and looked like a big fat sausage! We also got to go in the basket!
