School Development
Marsden Whitby continues to expand its facilities and its opportunities for students as the roll continues to grow. When Samuel Marsden took over Whitby Independent College in 2005 the school was using only the existing Duck Creek Golf Course buildings; that is, the main clubhouse rooms and the pro shop with a roll of 24 students. In 2007 two relocatable classrooms were added to the site and in June of the same year a purpose built music and art classroom block was opened.
By 2010 the roll had grown to 151 and the gymnasium was built and a stand-alone Lockwood classroom placed in the centre of the school site having been brought over from Karori.
Over the summer break of 2010/2011 a new building programme provided 3 new teaching spaces, a new tuck-shop, improved staff work facilities and the old pro shop was converted into a state of the art senior Science Lab.
In 2012 we started the year with a roll of 172 students and 19 staff and over the summer break of 2011/2012 two new purpose built classrooms were added to the site.
