Our Director of Marsden Primary
Celia McCarthy has been Director of Marsden Primary since 2007.
Teaching background and academic career
Celia was appointed to the Primary School at Marsden, Karori in 2000 and taught in Year 4 and Year 6 before being appointed Dean of the newly created Middle School (Years 7-9) in 2006. While completing a Masters of Education, she was invited to tutor and co-teach in the Bachelor of Education class at Victoria University, Wellington. Her previous teaching appointments have been in and around Wellington and the Kapiti Coast, as well as in Malawi in East Central Africa.
A passionate interest in Social and Emotional Wellbeing has seen Celia develop a Positive Education programme in both the senior school at Marsden and at the Year 6 level. A grant awarded by the Heads of Independent Schools Scholarship Trust enabled further research to be undertaken in Australia, visiting schools who were also pioneering programmes in this area.
Family and the creative arts
Family life is high on Celia’s list of priorities and she and her husband enjoy the proximity of their three daughters who are all currently working or studying in Wellington. Knitting, quilting and delighting in the creative arts, fills her soul. Celia’s driving passion is to see young children develop their own love of learning and grow into happy and resilient adults.
