Inspiring a love of learning

Marsden Preschool is for girls and boys, aged 3 1/2 to 5 years.

Open from 8:15am - 3:30pm, five days a week during school terms. Most children come five days, but there are options for 3 or 4 day attendance:

  • 3 year old children must attend a minimum of 3 days a week
  • 4 year old children must attend a minimum of 4 days a week

We provide a varied programme to challenge and excite children, inspiring a love of learning, independence and self-motivation.

Through a planned curriculum, based on the children’s interests, teachers extend and support learning that is purposeful and enjoyable for children. Planning focuses on a central question which the children explore through a range of learning experiences across the curriculum.

Under the guiding principles of Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, children’s strengths and interests are woven together to create each child’s early learning experience.

Literacy and Maths

At Marsden Preschool we create fun and informative ways to embed a variety of literacy and mathematical concepts for our children throughout the day.

We use Letterland for an introduction to the alphabet and its sounds. A 'Letter of the Week' provides the structure for our phonics and writing programme, with children bringing an object from home to share with the group.

Children practise counting in varied languages and experience different ways to explore mathematical concepts at both group times and one to one with a teacher.

Specialist teachers

Specialists teach Chinese and music in fun and creative ways each week.  The school librarian runs a weekly programme where the children share and borrow books.

We join in Primary Chapel service, Discovery Time with Years 1-3 and enjoy buddy reading with Year 5 students. We also participate in annual events such as cross country, athletic sports, church services, Grandparent’s Day and attend Primary School productions.

School Holiday Programme

As a response to a need from our parents, Marsden Preschool runs a school holiday programme during the third week of the July holidays. This is optional, however we have found that our students have so much fun, nearly all families avail themselves of this service.

We provide a warm caring environment that challenges all children to reach their full potential
