School Counsellor

Permanent, part-time

 

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate School Counsellor to join our hauora team in a part-time role (18 hours per week, Monday to Wednesday, term time only). This is a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students, supporting their personal, social and academic wellbeing in a school dedicated to Inspiring Girls.

 

Marsden has long been known for its supportive community and exceptional pastoral care. Our approach to hauora is school-wide and embedded in everything we do. In addition to deans and classroom teachers, students are supported by our expert hauora team, which includes a school nurse, counsellors and chaplain.

 

About the role

 

Reporting to the Head of Middle School/Hauora Lead and Principal, you will provide a confidential counselling service for students and work closely with staff, whānau and external agencies to support student wellbeing. You will be a trusted advisor and collaborator within our deaning and hauora teams and play a key role in nurturing a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment.

 

This role requires a confident, empathetic practitioner with strong interpersonal skills and a sound understanding of adolescent mental health.

 

What you’ll bring

 

  • A relevant counselling qualification and current membership with NZAC (or equivalent)
  • Experience counselling children and adolescents, ideally in a school setting
  • Up-to-date knowledge of adolescent mental health research and practice
  • The ability to build trust, observe confidentiality, and work with integrity
  • A collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills
  • Respect for, and alignment with, the special character and values of Marsden School
