Experience and background
Belinda is a dedicated primary educator with 12 years’ classroom experience (Years 1–6) and over 20 years working with children in diverse settings. She has a strong understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and expertise in literacy and numeracy progression. Known for building warm, trusting relationships, she creates hands-on, engaging learning experiences that spark curiosity and confidence.
Her specialist strength is Mathematics and Statistics. She is highly skilled in PR1ME™ Mathematics and the Number Sense Maths programme, a research-based approach that develops conceptual understanding, number flexibility, and rapid factual fluency.
Belinda also brings strong capability in English within the New Zealand Curriculum. She excels at developing confident, capable readers and writers, quickly identifying each learner’s needs and designing clear, well‑scaffolded lessons that accelerate progress. Her classroom is purposeful and energetic, with students experiencing success, growing independence, and genuine pride in their learning. Through high expectations, structured teaching, and strong relationships, she helps children thrive.
Beyond teaching, Belinda has held leadership roles in Mathematics & Statistics, Inquiry-based Learning, and Health & Physical Education. She currently serves as Marsden Primary Curriculum Lead, supporting teaching and learning across the Primary School, with a focus on the refreshed curriculum and smooth transitions from Preschool through Upper School.
Teaching philosophy
Relationships sit at the heart of Belinda’s teaching. She recognises each learner’s strengths, fosters a strong sense of belonging, and aligns her practice with school‑wide goals to ensure every child experiences success.
She is committed to bicultural practice that honours Aotearoa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Te reo Māori is woven naturally into daily learning, creating an inclusive and culturally responsive environment. Whanaungatanga guides both her teaching and personal life—she values teamwork, celebrates achievements big and small, and thrives in collaborative, supportive environments.
Education and professional development
Belinda began her teaching journey in the United States, completing an Honours degree in Education and Psychology. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from Victoria University of Wellington.
She is committed to ongoing professional growth, actively engaging with modern pedagogy, and currently exploring the integration of AI to enhance teaching and learning in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
Interests and hobbies
Outside the classroom, Belinda enjoys sports, cooking, travelling, and lifelong learning. She values time with family and community and embraces opportunities to connect, grow, and inspire others.
