Experience and background
Belinda is a passionate and experienced primary educator with a strong background in teaching Years 3-6. With over 20 years in education—both in New Zealand and overseas—she has developed a deep understanding of how to create a supportive, engaging and curiosity-driven learning environment. Her expertise includes PR1ME™ Mathematics and Structured Literacy, ensuring students develop strong foundational skills.
Beyond the classroom, Belinda has taken on leadership roles as a lead teacher in PE, Inquiry, and Mathematics, facilitating professional development and supporting colleagues in best teaching practices.
Teaching philosophy
Building strong relationships is at the heart of Belinda’s teaching philosophy. She recognises and nurtures each student’s strengths, fostering a sense of belonging and success while aligning with school-wide goals.
Belinda is committed to bicultural teaching practices that honour the foundations of Aotearoa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. She ensures te reo Māori is naturally integrated into daily learning, creating an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom.
Education and professional development
Belinda began her teaching journey in the United States, where she earned an Honours degree in Education and Psychology. She later completed a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from Victoria University of Wellington.
She actively pursues professional development in modern pedagogy and AI integration, staying at the forefront of 21st-century teaching. She is always exploring innovative strategies to enhance student learning.
Interests and hobbies
Outside of school, Belinda enjoys sports, cooking, travelling and lifelong learning. She values time spent with her family and community, always embracing opportunities to connect, grow and inspire others.
