School Counsellor
Role and Responsibilities
Kaye is one of Marsden’s School Counsellors who supports the wellbeing of students and their families through individual and small-group counselling, as well as classroom and school-wide initiatives and staff support.
Kaye joined the Marsden community towards the end of 2025 and works in a collaborative environment with the Wellbeing Team (Head of Wellbeing, Nurse, Chaplin and fellow Counsellor) Deans and staff to support the wellbeing of students and their families. Kaye is onsite on Monday’s to Wednesday’s between 9:30 am – 3.30pm.
Background
Kaye brings nearly 20 years of experience in child and adolescent mental health, having worked across a range of settings in both New Zealand and Australia. She has a particular specialisation in trauma‑informed practice and is a Full Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).
Kaye is trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, including Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT and TF‑CBT), Child‑Centred Play Therapy (CCPT), Filial Therapy, and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), allowing her to flexibly support students with diverse needs.
Interests and hobbies
Outside of work, Kaye enjoys reading, walking the local hills, practising yoga, and spending time in the water. A self-described “wannabe” ocean swimmer, she also loves relaxing at home with her wee cavoodle, Indi, especially in her favourite sunny spot with a good book.
Kaye is passionate about developing wellbeing resources that can reach as many children and young people as possible. Alongside her work at Marsden, Kaye has children’s books in the process of being published and is currently working on a wellbeing-focused board game.
