Bus Driver

Sone Petelo is one of Marsden’s bus drivers and a valued member of our transport team.

Born and raised in Solosolo, Samoa, Sone moved to New Zealand at the age of 20 and later became a New Zealand citizen. He is married to his wife Saleali’i, and together they have a six-year-old daughter, Lisa-Maraia. Family and culture are central to Sone’s life. He holds the role of family chief and main orator, representing both his own and his wife’s extended families at cultural events — a responsibility he carries with great pride.

Sone is fluent in English and Samoan and is deeply involved in his church and wider community. He plays the organ for EFKS Wellington’s church choir and volunteers regularly in a range of community activities. Much of his time outside work is spent attending Sunday services followed by extended family lunches, taking his daughter to her weekly gymnastics class, and supporting his local rugby club, Ories.

When asked what he enjoys most about driving buses, Sone says it is meeting people and knowing the roads around Wellington. He is known for being reliable, safety-focused, and especially attentive to passengers who require additional care or support. For Sone, driving is about service and responsibility — ensuring every child arrives safely and comfortably.

Families can expect a calm, friendly presence and a driver who treats every journey as if he were driving his own daughter to school.
