Marsden is thrilled to celebrate the incredible success of our 2025 school production, Freaky Friday — a joyful, high-energy musical that resonated with audiences of all ages, filling the auditorium with laughter, emotion, and well-earned applause across four unforgettable nights.
Making its Wellington debut, Freaky Friday proved to be both heartwarming and hilarious. The fast-paced comedic timing, emotional depth and sheer stage presence of our talented cast of 35 students from Years 9–13 left a lasting impression. Their energy and dedication were nothing short of electric.
Guiding them through this creative journey was experienced director and choreographer Alexandra McKellar (Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri, Te Āti Awa, Ngāi Tahu). Known for her work on major productions such as The Addams Family, Wicked, Heathers, and the premiere season of In the Green at BATS Theatre, Alex brought a wealth of industry experience and a deeply student-focused approach.
“This has been such a joyous show to work on,” she shared. “I’ve loved being welcomed into the Marsden whānau. Freaky Friday was a favourite of mine growing up, and now — as a parent — I see it through a different lens. At its core, this story is about empathy and understanding. Our students embraced that message wholeheartedly, and it showed in every performance.”
The production was a true celebration of collaboration, creativity and connection. From set design, lighting and sound, to costumes and backstage coordination, every detail was handled with professionalism and care by our dedicated students and staff.
