Marsden Dux 2015

Celeste Pan graduated Dux of Marsden in 2015. Her favourite subjects at school were English and German. Imagine writing an award winning English essay when English isn't your first language. That is exactly Celeste did in her final year at Marsden. She won the Cambridge University Trinity Hall Essay Prize in Modern Languages for her probing investigation of W G Sebald's grappling with his country's past in Die Ringe des Saturn.

After graduating at Marsden Celeste travelled to the UK to study English literature at Trinity Hall, Cambridge University. She graduated with a BA in English with first class honours in 2019 and will complete her Master of Philosophy in Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Oxford University in 2021. She offers English tutoring in Oxford.

I value the immense intellectual freedom Marsden gave me to pursue my interests, contribute to discussions and to know that my opinions were appreciated.

In 2016 Celeste returned briefly to New Zealand and was presented with her Top Scholar Award for German from the Prime Minister at Parliament. She also visited Marsden and was our guest speaker at Scholars' Assembly.
