Samuel Marsden Collegiate School is widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s leading independent schools for girls from Year 1 - 13, with a proud history dating back to 1878. Marsden is seeking to lay the foundation for lives of meaning, accomplishment and genuine happiness and is New Zealand’s first Visible Wellbeing TM School. Reporting to the Principal, the Director of Primary is a vital member of the Senior Management Team and leader of the Preschool and Primary programmes.

The Director of Primary will have a record of exemplary classroom practice, a demonstrable commitment to future-focused learning and student wellbeing, and a proven ability to lead and energise colleagues, parents and students.

Due to the retirement of our Director of Primary, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding and experienced leader to this full-time, permanent position.

The Director of Primary will have the confidence, passion and drive to take the Marsden Primary and Preschool to the next level and will:

  • Be an innovative and creative educator
  • Enjoy leading a collaborative and highly skilled teaching team
  • Have the ability to build trusting relationships with students, parents and colleagues
  • Be a leader in the use of technology for learning within the Primary setting
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of contemporary pedagogies in Preschool and Primary classroom practice and the impact of these on student learning
  • Support Marsden’s vision, values and Anglican Church affiliation
  • Embrace and lead Marsden’s Visible Wellbeing approach within the Preschool and Primary settings
  • Demonstrate a reflective approach to their own practice and a proactive interest in their professional growth as a leader and educator.

The successful candidate will be an energiser, able to positively influence the work of colleagues and students.
