Having a say in Youth Parliament

Ingrid Corbett and Winnie Solomon are both thrilled to be representatives on the Youth MP Select Committee this year. They will be assisting Cherise Perez who is Youth MP for Grant Robertson, Minister of Finance.

We asked them what being selected means to them and here's what they had to say about this fantastic opportunity:

Ingrid Corbett

I am so grateful and excited for the opportunity to be on the select committee alongside Winnie, helping Cherise Perez - Grant Robertson's Youth MP! I hope that the process can teach me more about the New Zealand government and further my knowledge as to what an MP is responsible for in their job. I'm excited to communicate the Marsden voice and give our girls an opportunity to share what they believe is the most prevalent problem to our young people and how we could fix it! I'd like to make an impact by ensuring all voices and ideas are heard, so that hopefully a great initiative can come to fruition and change the lives of our youth.

One thing I am super excited about being on the Youth MP Select Committee is that I am directly able to help make a change within schools alongside Ingrid, other selected representatives and Cherise and that I also have the opportunity to voice ideas and challenges students face in a school setting and can positively impact students in and/or outside of Marsden!

We look forward to hearing about Ingrid and Winnie's experiences on the Youth MP Select Committee. Youth Parliament 2019 is scheduled to be held on 16 and 17 July.
