Sports Teams make Marsden History

What an exciting week it has been for our sports teams competing at tournament, outperforming previous results and creating some magic for players, supporters and the Marsden history books!

Junior Underwater Hockey

After winning the Wellington Regional competition, our Junior Underwater Hockey Girls set their sights on the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship held over the weekend at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre. This was an amazing feat in itself, but what came next was simply outstanding.

After progressing through the NZSS competition unbeaten our girls made it through to the final. It was a tight and thrilling game, against a tough opponent, Epsom Girls Grammar but Marsden prevailed 3 goals to one, winning the gold medal and title of New Zealand Secondary Schools Junior Girls Underwater Hockey Champions!

We couldn't be prouder of the hard work, dedication and effort Mila Smith (Cap), Holly Dixon (Vice cap), Emma Egley, Jade Stapleton, Amy Harvey-Green, Tiffany Kenyon, Catherine Rombel, Charlotte Cinque and their coaches James Keating and Abigail Burdon have shown in their quest for gold. Congratulations!

There's a great write up in the College Sport Wellington news about this team ...

Senior A Netball

Marsden Senior A netballers have capped off a stellar season with a historic win against Palmerston North 37-25 to claim 5th place in the Lower North Island tournament held in Wellington. Our girls' goal all along had been a top 5 finish to qualify for Nationals, so this game was a big deal for them and for Marsden!

It was all on the line for our team, a win meant a trip to Nationals, a loss meant their last game together. They were able to bring the intensity with which they had played every game this week onto the court again when it mattered. Fitness, toughness, composure and the Ad Summa spirit were all there.

A brilliant result for this team and we wish them all the best for the national competition.
