Chinese Language Teacher

Jing Ying Herrington joined Marsden in 2011 and is deeply passionate about Chinese language learning for young people, achieving exceptional results for her students.

Her responsibilities encompass the comprehensive teaching of Chinese from Years 7 to 13, along with organising cultural activities and preparing selected students for the National and International Chinese Bridge Speech Competition. Additionally, she coordinates occasional class trips to China, enriching students' understanding of the language and culture.


I am passionate about teaching students to excel at the challenge of learning Chinese which is a difficult language. I like to open the minds of students to other cultures and inspire them to lifelong learning.

Experience

Jing Ying brings a wealth of experience to her role. Prior to her tenure at Marsden, she taught Chinese at various schools in Wellington and spent two years teaching at an international school in Hong Kong.

Educational background

Jing Ying completed a Bachelor of Arts in China and a Diploma in Teaching at Victoria University of Wellington. She also undertook Chinese teacher training programmes at various universities in China, enhancing her pedagogical skills and cultural understanding.
