We love the rich diversity our international students bring to Marsden

Our Programmes

International students at Marsden join regular learning programmes with local students and are fully immersed in the life of the school. Additional English language support is part of the timetable.

Orientation

Both the Director of International Students and the Dean of International Students welcome all new arrivals and help them settle into our school.

Our orientation programme includes the following:

  • Introduction to a 'buddy' student to help new students find their way around.
  • A meeting with the Deputy Principal to plan a personal study programme.
  • A visit with the Principal.
  • Introduction to school rules, procedures, counselling, support systems.
  • Familiarisation with the school layout, timetable and resources.
  • Internet access and ID Card.
  • Provision of school stationery lists and a school handbook.
  • Help with arranging the purchase of a school uniform.
  • Learning about local systems such as transport, banking, mobile phones etc.
  • Regular meetings in the International Hub.

Pastoral care

All students are supported by a team including the Director of International Students, Dean of International Students, Heads of School, Deans, form teachers, and the school nurse and counsellors.

Academic progress and personal wellbeing are monitored closely, and regular updates are provided to parents.

International students meet fortnightly as a group with our Dean of International Students to learn more about integrating into the New Zealand culture and get support for any questions they have about their learning, or life outside of school.

Learning and Creativity

At Marsden, creativity, problem-solving, sustainability and wellbeing are at the heart of learning. For example, Year 10 international student Minkyung and classmate Amy worked together to design and create a beautiful Korean hancbok, using New Zealand food packaging. Read more ...
